M Black is the dark mirror to the original M — same crystal craftsmanship, but a different soul entirely. Where M glows in Sherry-soaked elegance, M Black smoulders with whispers of peat, shadow, and ancient stone. The 2022 edition is haunting, architectural, and arrestingly beautiful.

In the glass, it’s rich mahogany fading into jet. The nose is deep and mysterious: dark chocolate, roasted chestnut, pipe tobacco, dried fig, and smouldering heather. Underneath, flint smoke, antique leather, and wild honey offer contrast and lift.

The palate is slow-burning and sculptural. It opens with dark fruit — blackberry preserve, molasses, prune — and immediately folds into spiced cocoa, espresso roast, and a warm, medicinal peat. The smoke is elegant, not aggressive — a velvet fog that moves in and out of the foreground.

Mid-palate: blood orange peel, black liquorice, leather satchel, and burnt toffee. The structure is firm — a lattice of oak and smoke wrapped around rich fruit and spice.

The finish is dry, smoky, and long. Cinder, dark chocolate dust, and orange oil linger with intensity and grace. M Black is a study in balance — of light and dark, clarity and mystery. A whisky for those who understand complexity lives in the shadows.
