This is Anejo without the drama - aged with purpose, not pretense. Rooster Rojo Anejo doesn't chase oak dominance or sweet-shop softness. Instead, it brings a steady, approachable style to the table - something that reads easy, but drinks with quiet depth.
Made in the lowlands of Jalisco from 100% Blue Weber agave, this tequila is rested in American oak for a full year. Long enough to develop structure. Short enough to keep the spirit's core intact. What emerges is not a heavy pour, but a composed one - softened by time, grounded in agave.
It's bottled at 38%, a deliberate move. Lower ABV means more space to let the flavour land gently - no burn, no flash, just a smoother frame for the warmth to move through. It's not trying to compete with barrel-proof whisky. It's trying to deliver a well-paced sip that works across a table, a cocktail, or a long evening.
The nose opens with soft caramel, warm vanilla, and roasted agave. Beneath that: orange peel, toasted oak, and a trace of dried fruit - more apricot than raisin, subtle and clean. Nothing cloying. Nothing perfumed.
On the palate, it's smooth and relaxed. Butterscotch and cinnamon arrive first, layered over roasted agave and nutmeg. There's a citrus lift around the mid-palate - think orange oil and charred peel - that keeps it from feeling flat. The wood is there, but never overplayed. It adds dryness and texture rather than taking over.
The finish is measured - medium in length, light on heat, and marked by vanilla bean, a hint of pepper, and just enough toasted oak to keep things anchored. Not showy. Just well-built.
Rooster Rojo ANejo is made for that in-between moment: not celebration, not ceremony - just good company and a clean glass. It sips well neat, especially after a meal, and slots easily into cocktails that benefit from aged character without overpowering: Old Fashioneds, Coffee Negronis, or an elevated Espresso Martini with a roasted edge.
This isn't an aNejo for the collector's shelf. It's for the drinker who wants comfort without compromise. A bottle that earns its place by being reliable, generous, and grounded in flavour over flash.
And when it's gone? You'll remember how quietly well it did its job.
