Sip Snapshot from Belford & Co

Each bottle in this collection is a chapter in a sun-drenched Bajan saga — three expressions of sugarcane soul, told with nuance, rhythm, and character. This is not a flight. It’s a literary journey in miniature, moving from brightness to depth like a good Caribbean novel.

Eclipse is the prequel — light-hearted, flirtatious, a coming-of-age story on the coast. In the glass, it gleams golden straw. The nose is like stepping into a tropical morning: grilled pineapple, soft banana bread, lemon peel, and a faint whiff of toasted coconut. On the palate, it's breezy and clean — orange zest, vanilla bean, and light brown sugar playing across the tongue like steelpan notes on a veranda. There’s a fleeting white pepper bite, a flash of oak, then it's gone — like that summer fling you still dream about sometimes.

Black Barrel is the darker middle chapter — complex, charismatic, and smoky with secrets. It pours a richer amber and hits the nose with bold intent: toasted oak, molasses, charred citrus peel, and a touch of clove. The mouthfeel is rounder, fuller — dark caramel, nutmeg, a crackle of ginger, and something spicy underneath, like roasted allspice. It tells its story with swagger, a rogue’s charm. The finish lingers like the smell of fire on clothes the morning after a beach bonfire.

XO is the final act — a memoir. Older, wiser, textured with time. It pours deep bronze, and the nose is arresting: figs soaked in rum, pipe tobacco, candied pecans, and salted caramel drifting over antique wood. The palate is opulent but never bloated — rich dried fruit, orange marmalade, dark chocolate, and hints of espresso and leather. The finish is warm, enduring, and contemplative. It's the taste of a sea breeze blowing through an open window in an old plantation house at dusk.

Together, these three tell the Mount Gay story with elegance and flair. A masterclass in rum identity — from bright beginnings to a dusk-lit legacy.
