This limited-edition release emerges from a collaboration between Bardstown Bourbon Company and the West Virginia Great Barrel Company (WVGBC) - a cooperage recognised for advancing barrel science through technology and precision. At the heart of this project lies a unique finishing process: infrared-toasted cherry oak casks, developed to maximise flavour expression while maintaining balance and clarity.
The whiskey itself is a blend of 95 percent sourced rye (classic Indiana mash bill) and Bardstown's own high-rye distillate. It begins its maturation in standard American oak barrels before being transferred into WVGBC’s custom-toasted cherry oak casks for finishing. The use of infrared heat allows for targeted toasting, unlocking sugars and aromatic compounds deep within the wood without the inconsistencies of open flame.
The nose is aromatic and layered - cherry pit, sandalwood, vanilla bean and warm baking spice rise first, followed by hazelnut, roasted sugar and a faint herbal lift. The cherry oak imparts both floral brightness and gentle red fruit tones.
On the palate, the rye grain speaks clearly - clove, cinnamon, black pepper and a touch of minty dryness.
