Introduction to Teeling Distillery
Teeling Distillery is an Irish whiskey distillery established in Dublin in 2015 by the Teeling Whiskey Company and owned by Bacardi Limited.
It is the first new whiskey distillery to have opened in Dublin, once a world whiskey distilling capital, in over 125 years. In fact, with the last of the original Dublin distilleries having closed in 1976, it is the first whiskey distillery to operate in Dublin, once home to at least 37 distilleries, in almost 40 years.
The distillery was established by Jack and Stephen Teeling, whose father John Teeling had founded the monopoly-breaking Cooley Distillery in 1987. It is located in the Liberties area of Dublin, close to where Walter Teeling, an ancestor of the family had established a distillery on Marrowbone Lane in 1782. The symbol of the brand, a phoenix rising from a pot still, symbolises the re-establishment of the Teeling whiskey brand.
Tasting Notes for Teeling Renaissance 18 Year Old Series No.5 Whiskey 700ml
The fifth and final release in the award-winning Renaissance single malt series contains liquid aged initially in ex-Bourbon barrels before being finished in ex-Calvados (apple brandy) casks, imparting a beautiful range of sweet orchard fruit flavours with a soft spiciness. Jack Teeling, Founder and Managing Director of Teeling Whiskey, commented on finishing up a range that began back in 2019; “Like all good things, the Renaissance Series must come to an end. These limited edition Teeling Whiskeys really lived up to their name, as they have been enjoyed and celebrated all over the world including winning some of the top honours for Irish whiskey at International Spirits Competitions over the last few years. For the final release we have hand selected some of our very best 18-Year-Old Single Malt to make sure we end this award-winning series on a high note. We can end this series knowing that the Renaissance of Dublin as the epicentre for world-class, city based whiskey distillation is now firmly re-established with our Dublin distilled Irish whiskey now being celebrated and enjoyed around the world.”
Released in the UK in early 2022 and limited to 9,000 bottles globally, the finished malt lands at 46% with zero chill filtration and comes presented in Teeling's striking black case, housing a unique tall decanter bottle that will stand proud on any shelf.
Notes from the producers... Nose: Candied Apples, Cinnamon, Baked Pears, Fresh Mint. Taste: Apple Pie, Golden Raisins, Pink Peppercorns, Jasmine. Finish: Maple syrup, Dried cherries, Wood Tannins.
