Ocho Blanco: Agave with a Passport - Single Estate, Vintage-Dated, and Full of Place
If most tequila is a genre, Ocho Blanco is an author. It writes its own story every year, shaped by the field where the agave grew and the season in which it was harvested. No other blanco on the market makes terroir this central to its identity. This isn't just a tequila-it's a conversation with the land.
Produced by the legendary Carlos Camarena (El Tesoro, Tapatío) at NOM 1474 (La Altena) in the Highlands of Jalisco, Ocho was co-created with UK spirits pioneer Tomás Estes, with one radical idea: treat agave like wine grapes. Harvest from a different rancho every year. Put the vintage and field name on the label. Taste the difference.
And you do. Immediately.
On the nose, Ocho Blanco is a bright, mineral-laced punch of life. Roasted agave, green olive, citrus oil, white pepper, and fresh herbs come through with electric clarity. Depending on the field and vintage, you might catch hints of ripe melon, fennel, or even stone fruit. But the through-line is always pure agave-fragrant, fibrous, and full of sun.
The palate is sharp, dry, and expressive. Expect an opening of cooked agave and cracked pepper, followed by waves of lime zest, wet stone, brined jalapeno, and a touch of grass. It's not soft or sweet-it's structured. The mouthfeel is clean and slightly oily, with just enough grip to remind you this is tequila made with purpose. Fermented with fibres. Distilled with care.
The finish is long, peppery, and mouth-watering. You're left with a trail of citrus and salt, like the echo of a sea breeze through Highland fields.
Ocho Blanco isn't just a great tequila-it's a benchmark. It's what you pour when someone says all blanco tastes the same. It's what you reach for when you want to taste agave as an agricultural product, not just a base for cocktails.
This is a thinking drinker's tequila, but it's not precious. Throw it in a glass, sip it neat, build it into a Tommy's Margarita, or do a vertical tasting across vintages-it holds up at every level.
Vintage-dated, field-specific, and proudly traditional. This is agave with identity. A true blanco for the terroir-curious, and one of the most important bottles in modern tequila.
