Sunny, Silky, Slightly Peated

Days was built for brightness. Nikka took the mellow glide of Coffey grain, folded in non-peated Miyagikyo malt for fruit, then added a touch of Coffey malt and Yoichi peat to keep the edges lively. The aim was not weight but feel: a delicate, fruit-forward blend that still reads as carefully made and unmistakably Nikka.

Launched in Europe in 2018 and rolled out stateside in 2020, it sits in the everyday slot without ever feeling plain. Floral lift and citrus zip meet soft vanilla and cereal sweetness, the peat more breeze than bonfire. Oak is present but quiet, framing rather than steering. It is easy to pour neat, happier still as a highball, and honest about its intent.

Nikka is also transparent about category. Days does not meet every requirement of the Japanese trade body definition for Japanese whisky, and it says so. What matters in the glass is balance: grain for glide, malt for melody, peat for punctuation.

This is Nikka’s soft voice for any day. Fruit, silk, and a clean finish make it versatile and welcoming, the kind of bottle that disappears at a good table.

Final Thought

Light on its feet and serious in its craft, Days proves that simplicity, done well, can be a style of its own.
