Introduction to Frapin
Frapin is located in the centre of the Grande Champagne Premier Cru du Cognac region in the sleepy little town of Segonzac, the finest designated region in Cognac. It is the only merchant located in the town and only sells Cognacs produced from grapes sourced from its own 778 acre estate in the heart of the Grande Champagne region.
The Frapin family have been winegrowers since 1270 and mostly sold their Cognacs to Remy Martin, Hennessy, Courvoisier and other houses until the 1980's. Since 1984, when the Cointreau family took over what was then a forgotten brand, it has been selling increasing quantities of brandies. These brandies have been kept in new wood for longer than their competitors, so confident are they with the quality of it's brandies , the size of its stocks represent 18 years of sales (an amount of 2 to 3 times the quantity of the stocks held by its competitors).
Frapin keeps its best cognacs in new oak for up to 2 and a half years, depending on the amount of colour (and therefore tannin) the spirit has absorbed.
Tasting Notes
Elegant, supple and brilliant, greedy, the 1990 vintage is the fruit of a complex alchemy, a combination of a unique terroir, ancestral know-how and a passion for excellence. Fully signed Frapin by its voluptuous aromatic richness and its infinite length in mouth, it is endowed with its own personality inherited from the climatic hazards of that year on the vineyard slopes of Chez Piet... Harvested, distilled on the lees and aged at the Domaine, the 1990 Vintage - 30 Years Old contains the sublime expression of our terroir located in the heart of the Grande Champagne.
COLOUR Bright, orange-yellow, the colour flatters the eyes with a joyful glow.
NOSE: The nose is carried away by delicate and refined notes of candied orange and dried fig before being conquered by aromas of dried fruit. Finesse and elegance characterise this vintage.
PALATE: It displays an elegance and a greediness all in balance. Notes of candied fruits like orange flatter the palate, followed by a touch of liquorice and cinnamon. The journey continues slowly, generously, on fine notes of rancio, cigar box.
TASTING TIPS By the grace of aeration in the glass, this cognac with its beautiful orange-yellow colour, will bring out the depth of the aromas acquired from a long 30 year sleep in dry cellars.
"A cognac with an exceptional length in the mouth". Patrice Piveteau, Cellar Master
